Easter 2013: Dutch Style

Well it certainly was a traditional family affair! and we felt every bit a part of it too ๐Ÿ™‚

Not all the family members could make it but the house was full when we were joined by Jonna’s daughter Turid and her boyfriend Pedro and Rien’s youngest son Ramon and his girlfriend Jennifer on the saturday. Our first taste of dutch tradition was a gourmet/buffet meal, where you can help yourself to raw meats, cheeses, breads, and a whole selection of goodies cooked on tiny individual frying pans on a hotplate with a grill underneath… genius! I was a little unsure how to approach it at first – so many hands and pans flying around – ย but it certainly turned into a laugh when Pedro started creating some interesting and mammoth burger style concoctions!

Sunday brunch felt like christmas! sleepy people all gathered together with an air of excitement for the coming event… the easter egg hunt! The food was exquisite as usual, Jonna really is a wonderful chef, and so many types of cheese, spreads, meats, sausages (of course) fruit, salads, breads, the works ๐Ÿ™‚ so with our bellys full we eagerly awaited the hunt!

Family traditions certainly don’t die out here just because the children are no longer of a childhood age – apparently even Riens 40 year old son joins in when he comes. The location of the hunt was kept secret until we were all waiting in the hallway with baskets at the ready! ‘To the attic!’ Jonna revealedย and we raced up the stairs ๐Ÿ™‚ and well it really was a laugh. The biggest egg/bunny had been hidden on a high roof support so we had to collaborate our forces for that one. Unfortuantely everyone forgot to take their winnings home so me and Ben have had to work our way through all the chocolate since… what a shame!

Monday we set out for a trek in the snow! We enjoyed a picnic at the top of a remote hill with a beautiful vista – ahhh bliss ๐Ÿ™‚ and climbed into a few of the many hunting/bird watching/chillaxing wooden huts. We also got a tad lost, the old german signposts where not much help but we found our way before the sun went down.

What a beautiful weekend and an easter to remember ๐Ÿ™‚

Til soon,
